I Ketut Sunarta

[february 10 . 1978] was born in the village of Bedulu on Bali. From childhood on he always dreamed of being an artist. In 1989 he started to learn the art of carving from his uncle. Now he owns a small studio in Yeh Pulu together with his wife Kadek who runs a little warung, Yeh Pulu Cafe.

This isolated place, so close to nature, is a perfect surrounding for working and provides him with inspiration to make his art. He often uses hibiscus as his base material, preferably old pieces with interesting colouring. Other types of wood used are frangipani, crocodile, sandal, mahogany and teak, to name a few.

He creates his artworks exploring his own imagination, using ancient stories and his religious vision of Hindu and Balinese culture. His artworks are collected around the world, in Indonesia, Australia and Europe.
